Katie Coleman: Finding Meaning in Hospital Bands on the Journey to NED
Katie Coleman, Founder of Chromophobe and Oncocytic Tumor Alliance (COA), shared a post on X/Twitter:
”I started collecting my hospital bands early in my diagnosis and told myself I’d do something with them one day if I ever reached no evidence of disease.
It’s been over a year since I first read the words in a report, but I’ve kept the bands stuffed away because honestly, NED is something I’ve been cautious to get attached to.
But last night the 35 bands that I’ve kept (now wrapped around the rocks), finally found their home, next to a sign and my favorite reminder another patient gave me before surgery. You Can.
The rocks, the bands, this sign- all carry a lot of meaning for me. So this is a nice glow up for them instead of being stuffed in a Caution, Hazardous Drug bag where the bands lived before.
I had a long posts about the significance of these bands but we’ll just leave this here instead.”
