Jordan Rathkopf: Burden of Concealment – The Diagnosed, The Caregiver, and Their Son

Jordan Rathkopf, Co-Founder of The Rathkopfs, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Our project, ‘Burden of Concealment: The Diagnosed, The Caregiver, and Their Son,’ will be featured in the upcoming exhibition ‘A(I) Brighter Tomorrow: Cancer and Beyond’ at the Gallery of ARTFul Medicine, Montefiore Einstein.

This thought-provoking exhibition brings together renowned artists, scientists, and cancer survivors to reimagine the journey of illness and healing through the transformative power of art. Our work explores the impact of cancer on families, particularly oncofertility—Anna’s loss of fertility due to treatment—and engages in a rich conversation with Suzanne Anker‘s groundbreaking Bio-Art, celebrated for pushing boundaries and redefining perspectives globally.

For more information about this initiative or to connect with curators Maria Natalia Marin Marin and Director of the Fine Art Program at Montefiore Einstein Jodi Moise, feel free to reach out.

Exhibition Dates: January 24 – April 18, 2025
Location: Montefiore Einstein, Bronx, NY
We’re grateful to be among such visionary voices, highlighting the role of empathy, communication, and art in transforming how cancer is understood.

Special thanks to sponsors and partners including Bloomberg Philanthropies and Simone Development Companies.

Exhibition Highlights:

‘Return to Life: In and Out of the Body’ by Suzanne Anker, developed under the scientific guidance of Heather Feil at Montefiore’s Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Health, explores onco-fertility through parallels between nature’s cycles and the preservation of life.

‘Burden of Concealment: The Diagnosed, The Caregiver, and Their Son’ by Anna Rathkopf and Jordan Rathkopf draws on their personal experiences as a patient and caregiver.

‘Physic AI Garden’ by Anna Dumitriu and Alex May integrates artificial intelligence to highlight health challenges from cancer treatment while exploring potential AI-driven solutions.

‘T(H)UMOR: Dear Cancer Diary’ by Federico Muelas transforms real-life cancer survivor stories from Montefiore’s Bronx Oncology Living Daily (BOLD Buddies) program into comic art.

Romanian-based Dr. Sabina Șucuri Sucuri, a radiation oncologist, and photographer Vladimir Gheorghiu collaborated on a poignant concept using light and shadow to explore survivorship. Their work includes a moving visual interview with the mother of a young boy who passed away in 2023 after 13 years of resilience.”
