Jim Olson: I Was Raised by a Single Mom in rural Upper Michigan and Became an Pediatric Oncologist Who Discovered Cancer Therapies
Jim Olson, Pediatric Oncologist, Founder of Presage Biosciences, Blaze Bioscience, and Link Immunotherapeutics — shared on LinkedIn:
“I was raised by a single mom in rural Upper Michigan and became an MD,PhD pediatric oncologist who cared for kids with brain tumors and discovered cancer therapies. Pell grants and The National Institutes of Health training grants enabled my career, which wouldn’t have been otherwise possible, even though I worked during high school, college, and grad school. The University of Michigan, Western Michigan University, and other state schools can best train students with promise when federal funding remains strong and stable.
The proposed 40% cuts to NIH funding could mean that education like I received is only available to the wealthy. Republicans and Democrats alike should let their Congressional representatives know that they value education, biomedical research, and quality healthcare. Please take 2 minutes to contact Congress.”
