Isabelle Villadary: It was my privilege to co-lead a virtual forum at the French Ambassy from Bogota “FOR THE CHILDREN, NO MORE GAPS”

Isabelle Villadary, Head of Childhood Cancer Program at Foundation S, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“It was my privilege to co-lead with Oscar Ramirez and Karen Molina a virtual forum at the French Ambassy from Bogota (Colombia) “FOR THE CHILDREN, NO MORE GAPS”. The session was hosted by Diario La República and Alianza Francesa and attended by communities, decision makers, institutions and non-governmental organization of Colombia. The main objective was to raise awareness on childhood cancer burden and challenges, browsing solutions and calling for action.

4 key take-aways:

  • Global Impact needs Local Action
  • Children with Cancer can be saved, it is feasible
  • Collective action with multiplayers tackling factors that compromise the positive outcome will provide a biggest and more sustainable impact
  • Connecting people and leaders who innovate, generate data and deliver across the world should speed the success.

In Colombia, Foundation S is partnering on 2 projects:

With POHEMA Foundation – Decreasing time to diagnosis of cancer in children by training primary healthcare providers. The overall goal is to reduce the time from parent suspicion to first contact with a primary care provider, and the time from first contact to diagnosis confirmation.

With Valle del Lili Foundation – The pediatric palliative care program “Taking Care of You” is building access and cultural change in pediatric palliative care in alliance. Their overall goal is to generate strategies that facilitate early access to a high-quality standardized Pediatric Palliative Care program and build cultural and social awareness as a right for patients and their families. About 320 children have already been reached by this initiative in 2023.

Thank you to all the panelists for their insights and inspiration,
