Gregory Sawyer: Exploring Lung Cancer Through Advanced Microtumor Models

Gregory Sawyer, Chair of the Bioengineering Department at Moffitt Cancer Center, shared a post on X:

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month.

Each year, over 200,000 people face this challenging diagnosis. This 3D microscope image captures a lung adenocarcinoma (LuAD) microtumor grown by Elsa Renee Flores in vitro under perfusion using a Darcy plate at the Moffitt Lung Cancer Center of Excellence. It highlights tumor heterogeneity with ΔNp63 (red), YAP (green), and nuclei (blue).

Thanks to programs like Rapid Tissue Donation and researchers like Eric Haura, MD, these models help us explore innovative therapies and improve treatment strategies.”
