New Genome BC-funded Projects on Genetic Testing for Hereditary Cancer
Genome British Columbia shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Thousands of lives in BC could be saved through genetic testing for hereditary cancer but access is limited, and many people don’t even know it’s an option.
What if we could change that?
Two Genome BC-funded projects are working to expand access to genetic testing:
Dr. Lesa Dawson (The University of British Columbia Obstetrics, Womens Research, Gynecologic Cancer Initiative) is advancing population-based testing.
Dr. Intan Schrader (UBC Medical Genetics Medical, BC Cancer) and Dr. Samantha Pollard (Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation) are leading efforts in cascade carrier testing.
These teams are:
- Listening to communities
- Examining medical system challenges
- Designing and piloting real-world solutions
This is about more than innovation – it’s about building a system that saves lives and works for everyone.
