EU’s Last Plenary Session of 2024
European Cancer Organisation shared on LinkedIn:
“This week Members of the European Parliament have been in Strasbourg for the last Plenary Session of 2024. ECO supported the MEP debates with 5 points of briefing.
Joint Debate on Misinformation
Online misinformation is hampering cancer prevention efforts and misleading patients and their families. The public should be supported in gaining information from reputable and expert websites, journals and publications. The EU Code of Practice on Disinformation should be further supported.
The next EU Multiannual Financial Framework
Investment in Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan is paying off. Cancer policies are improving and new EU tools are coming into existence. Targeted EU health policy works and should continue beyond 2027.
A Right to Clean Drinking Water
Everyone has a right to clean drinking, free of contaminants, including chemicals associated to cancer risk. Full implementation of the EU Zero Pollution Action Plan is required.
Rights of Persons with disabilities
A refreshed EU Strategy on disability is to be supported. There are a large range of disabilities that a person may experience as a result of a cancer diagnosis.
The EU’s input to the UN Commission on the Status of Women
Access to HPV vaccination and breast and cervical cancer screening should be considered universal women’s rights.”
