Estela Rodriguez: It’s upsetting when the Bell Rings, but many cancer survivors are still in the middle of the fight

Estela Rodriguez, Associate Director of Community Outreach and Co-Lead of Thoracic Site Disease Group of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, shared a post on X:

“As I walk pass this bell with my mother who was diagnosed with a breast cancer recurrence this week and my aunt who also was treated twice for breast cancer, I realize how upsetting it is to listen to this bell when many cancer survivors are never done or still in the middle of treatment.”

Estela Rodriguez’s post received support, with many people sharing their thoughts in the comments:

Amy C. Moore:

“Sending prayers for your mom and family. Hugs. I am thankful my mom’s breast cancer was caught early through mammography.”

Coral Olazagasti:

“I am so sorry to hear about your mom. Keeping you and your family in my prayers.”

Kerry Allison:

“I hate the bell. Never rang it after finishing primary treatment as I thought it was just thoughtless and cruel…now metastatic and hate the sound of it even more…”

Nagla Abdel Karim:

“Wishing your mom and your aunt and all cancer patients recovery. I totally agree that we are not done and the focus should be on quality of life.”
