Douglas Flora: Who Are You Working For? Harnessing AI With Purpose for Cancer Care

Douglas Flora, Executive Medical Director of Oncology Services at St. Elizabeth Healthcare and President-Elect of the Association of Cancer Care Centers, shared a post on LinkedIn:

” ‘Who are YOU working for?’ – A great question for anyone working to help cancer patients.

I had the privilege of joining Bristol Myers Squibb – one of our most important partners at ACCC – in Princeton for their Global Town Hall to talk about the evolving role of AI in drug discovery, clinical trials, and – most importantly – how to empower their team members to harness these powerful new tools with confidence and purpose.

Upskilling your teams on AI tools is no longer optional. In this fourth industrial revolution, this is how companies will go from Good to Great.

Thank you to Wendy Short Bartie, Rich Boyle, Chris Shibutani, and Chris Boehner for the warm welcome and thoughtful dialogue. The conversations were rich, and the energy was future-focused. People there impressed me that they do indeed ‘Lead with passion.’ What stood out most? The focus on team members helping patients – especially the well-deserved standing ovation for the patient testimonial (GO Laura!)

These kinds of partnerships – where shared values drive innovation – are exactly what healthcare needs more of. When leaders prioritize learning and patient-centered purpose, transformation becomes possible.

There is a Chinese proverb that says, ‘When the winds of change blow, some build walls, others build windmills.’ Today I witnessed an organization choosing to build windmills – harnessing the power of AI and change to create something that serves patients better. That’s the kind of partnership that moves medicine forward.”
