Siobhan Freeney: Telling a Woman With Dense Breasts Her Mammogram Is Clear Is Incomplete Information
Siobhan Freeney, Founder of Lobular Ireland, shared a post on LinkedIn by Sergej Popovich, Head of the Breast Imaging Section at Evidia Germany, adding:
“The decision to withhold Breast Density Information from Women who participate in Breast Cancer Screening is unconscionable and may deny almost 50% of Women Screened an Equal Opportunity for Early Detection.
Telling a Woman who has Dense Breasts that her Mammogram is clear is Incomplete Information.
Breast Density Information is available and should be shared with the Women screened.
Radiologists can see at a glance when a Woman’s Mammogram shows she has Dense Breasts.
European Recommendations from European Society of Breast Imaging (EUSOBI) point to the fact that ALL Women should be appropriately notified about their Breast Density.”
Quoting Sergej Popovich’s post:
“Breast cancer screening saves lives – now it’s official.
Yesterday, the German Radiation Protection Commission presented long-awaited results:
Breast cancer mortality in Germany has dropped significantly – thanks to the national screening program launched in 2005.
But challenges remain:
- Only 50% of women participate.
- No clear path yet for women with extremely dense breast tissue.
We need better awareness, more personalized approaches, and AI to support diagnostics – especially as medical staff becomes scarcer.
This success is thanks to everyone involved: techs, radiologists, coordinators – and the women who choose to take part.
Let’s keep the quality high. Let’s keep saving lives.”
