Dean Crowe: This is my why
Dean Crowe, Founder & CEO, Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I love seeing pictures of our Rally Kids. But this one of 10-year-old Rally Kid Caroline hugging her older brother, Jack, hit me right in the gut. For most of her young life, Caroline has been fighting a relentless brain tumor—this is the only life she’s ever known. She’s fierce, spunky, and incredibly brave, enduring countless rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, scans, pokes, and surgeries.
Right now, Caroline’s family is searching for the next treatment option that could be the cure. This is my why. Every child who wants to keep fighting should have access to treatment options, but for kids like Caroline, running clinical trials is often cost-prohibitive limiting treatment options.
And don’t get me started on all the time, energy, heart, funding, innovation and intellect pediatric oncologist and researchers pour into their pre-clinical research, only to find out there are no funds available for their clinical trials.
As a nation, we need to do better. We must ensure that brave kids like Caroline have the viable options they deserve. It’s time to change the system and make sure cost does not sideline hope because no child should be left without hope.”
