Carmen Monge-Montero: Language, Identity, Roots, Cancer And a Podcast Recorded On The Go

Carmen Monge-Montero, Researcher and Patient Advocate at Youth Cancer Europe, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Language, identity, roots, cancer… and a podcast recorded on the go!
While walking through the American Association for Cancer Research Conference, I had the joy of recording this heartfelt conversation with Carolyn Van, a fellow SSP participant and one of my favorite connections from the event.
We talked about the power of language, how we self-identify after cancer, what we’ve learned from this journey, Can-Can, ethnicity and race, and the deep ties we hold to our roots.
It was personal, reflective, and full of those small moments that make you feel connected. You’ll hear the footsteps and the conference buzz – but most of all, you’ll feel like you’re walking right there with us.
Thank you, Carolyn, for your warmth, honesty, and the way you hold space for these conversations. These are the moments that remind me why I do this work.”

Carolyn Van, Professor, School of Business Management at Centennial College, shared this post, adding:

“When the world talks about cancer gives you… the ick.
Language shapes how we think, learn, problem solve, and lead.
On ‘I am not a cancer sufferer’, we get into accessibility in care, biases and blindspots in research design, delivery and communication, ethnicity and reclaiming and authoring our identities, and the problem with language used around cancer.
Meet Carmen Monge-Montero, author and globe-trotting cancer advocate. Grab yourself a cup of coffee and walk-and-talk with us.
Thanks, Carmen, for joining me!”
