“Voice of the families, post #26 Girmave and his father.
Girmaye and his father, Yedemie Ayele, are from Durbetie district in the West Gojam Zone of the Amhara region in Ethiopia. Girmaye lives with his parents and six siblings in a farming family with a subsidiary income.
Unfortunately, Girmaye was diagnosed with blood cancer about six months ago, which brought a wave of sadness to the family, especially with the burden of treatment costs.
Since his diagnosis, Girmaye has been receiving chemotherapy at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital (UoGCSH) in Gondar, Ethiopia, located about 300 kilometers away from their home.
The long travel, along with the emotional toll of the diagnosis, made it difficult for the family to cope. However, with the help of counseling, cash transfers, and support from the Tesfa Addis Parents Childhood Cancer Organization (TAPCCO) (a local non-profit organization), they found some relief and continued with the treatment.
Thanks to these interventions, Girmaye’s prognosis is looking positive, and his family is now feeling more hopeful.
They are appreciative of the services and cash transfers they have been receiving, which have made a significant difference in their ability to manage both the emotional and financial challenges of Girmaye’s cancer treatment.
