Association of European Cancer Leagues – Tomorrow, EU health ministers have an important opportunity for cancer prevention
Association of European Cancer Leagues shared on LinkedIn:
“Tomorrow, EU health ministers have an important opportunity for cancer prevention by voting on new EU Council recommendations on e-cigarettes and other novel and emerging nicotine and tobacco products in public places.
Various nicotine and tobacco products, like e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products, have emerged as alternatives to conventional cigarettes in recent years and have become especially popular among young people.
While research on the long-term health impacts of such products is underway, evidence shows that they can lead to the use of other tobacco products through what is known as the ‘gateway effect’.
Although the Council Recommendation, if adopted, will not legally binding, it would still act as an important tool to better protect people from the dangers of tobacco and nicotine products.
We’re calling on all EU governments to support the draft Council Recommendation!
Read our position paper explaining the urgent need to regulate novel and emerging nicotine and tobacco products across the EU.”
