Arif Kamal: More Than 50% of People With Cancer and Those in Survivorship Experience an Aspect of Social Isolation
Arif Kamal, Chief Patient Officer at American Cancer Society, shared American Cancer Society’s post on LinkedIn:
” ‘To be able to actually talk to somebody that has been there. You can’t put a price on that.’
More than 50% of people with cancer and those in survivorship experience an aspect of social isolation. And while feelings of loneliness can happen to anyone, groups in rural areas are at an even greater risk.
Thank you, Keeshia and Klara, for shining a light on how building community can help change the odds.”
Quoting American Cancer Society’s post:
“Keeshia’s journey with breast cancer – first diagnosed at 46 and again at 51 – carries a powerful message about the critical importance of early detection, ongoing care, and the life-changing impact of peer support.
In the final episode of Front Porch Conversations created with Pfizer and actor and cancer community advocate Patrick Dempsey, Keeshia shares how speaking openly about her experiences has helped her create life-long friendships with others navigating breast cancer, like Klara, and inspires her to advocate for others in underserved communities.
Hear more from Keeshia and discover how we’re working to Change The Odds against cancer by enhancing awareness of and access to cancer resources and support.”
