Arif Kamal: ACS CARES App – Navigating Health Needs for Newly Diagnosed Patients
Arif Kamal, Chief Patient Officer for the American Cancer Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“There’s an app for that.
Except, there wasn’t. For people newly diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers who seek an app to help them navigate a new and oftentimes complex journey, there wasn’t one powered by the immense resources of the American Cancer Society.
But we changed that. It’s called ACS CARES.
A free download, the app provides tailored content and zip code-based solutions for health-related social needs barriers people face.
But there’s also a component where trained student volunteer navigators join patients for their appointments, bringing together the scalability of digital alongside the compassion of personal.
To accelerate our recruitment of college students into the program across even more university campuses, we’re so honored to receive a recent grant from the Deloitte Health Equity Institute led by my colleague and friend Jay Bhatt.
The perfect example of a private/non-profit partnership that accelerates achieving health equity by bringing navigation to populations that could benefit the most.”
Arif Kamal is the first-ever Chief Patient Officer for the American Cancer Society and drives efforts to advance cancer care. With experience at Duke University and the Duke Cancer Institute, he is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Population Health.
He is also a Co-Founder of Prepped Health. Dr. Kamal’s expertise lies in oncology quality assessment, palliative care, and innovative technology solutions for patient engagement.
