Ane Gerda Zahl Eriksson: Researchers report a sharp decline in Cervical Cancer incidence and mortality

Ane Gerda Zahl Eriksson, Head of the Endometrial Cancer and Gynecologic Sarcoma team at the Radium Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn by the Department of Health Management and Health Economics, University of Oslo, adding:

“Last year the Cancer Registry of Norway (Kreftregisteret) could report that there were no cases of Cervical Cancer in the cohort of women age 25 -the first cohort to be offered the HPV vaccine in the national childhood vaccination program.

Although cancer in this age-group is rare, it was still very uplifting and exciting news.

Now, researchers from USA report a sharp decline in Cervical Cancer incidence and also mortality in cohorts eligible for the HPV vaccine in the US.

This is all very promising. We will have more definitive answers in years to come, also regarding other HPV-related cancers.”
