Adekemi Oyewusi: Advocating for Childhood Cancer at Nigeria’s First Ladies Against Cancer 2025
Adekemi Oyewusi, TMO Project Coordinator at OneHealth, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Once again, I wore the hat of speaking on behalf of many Nigerian children battling cancer.
I received a kind invitation from Her Excellency Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, on behalf of Nigeria’s First Ladies Against Cancer @flacnig to join an evening of celebration and meaningful discourse on cancer in Nigeria, and the vital roles being played by both present and past First Ladies in Nigeria in the fight against Cancer.
It was a moment of deep honor and reflection, as 10 cancer survivors were celebrated and we were honoured for our courage and resilience in the face of one of life’s toughest battles.
Standing before Nigeria’s First Ladies, past and present, as well as Honourable Ministers and other distinguished guests at the First Ladies Against Cancer 2025 event, I was privileged to speak on a topic deeply personal and profoundly important to me:
“Protecting the Future of Our Nation: Childhood Cancer Advocacy.”
As a childhood cancer survivor and advocate, I used the moment to call for greater commitment, collaboration, and compassion in ensuring that no child is left behind in the fight against cancer. We need a dedicated budget to support the treatment of every Nigerian child battling cancer.
And together, we can rewrite the narrative, for our children, for our families, and for the future of Nigeria. Thank you, Your Excellencies, for the honour and for your continued support in the cancer space in Nigeria.”
