Adekemi Oyewusi: World Cancer Day 2025 “Beyond the Celebration, A Call to Action”

“World Cancer Day 2025 “Beyond the Celebration, A Call to Action”
Every year on February 4th, the world comes together to mark World Cancer Day, creating a wave of awareness and activities. But as I reflect this year while navigating my own life’s challenges. I ask myself, should this day be just a global celebration, or a moment for deep reflection, genuine support for cancer champions, and an honest dialogue about progress?
This year, the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) launched a beautiful platform to amplify the inspiring and powerful stories of cancer champions around the world. Their journeys remind us of the strength, resilience, and hope that fuel the fight against cancer every day.
You might be wondering: What can I do differently this year?
1. Visit the UICC World Cancer Day platform, read the stories, and drop a love to inspire hope.
2. Show support to those in the fight either by visiting them, paying for their medication or treatment, praying with them, taking them out to a calm environment etc., because a small act of kindness can mean the world to them.
3. Speak up, and engage with your leaders and communities on what must change to improve cancer care and outcomes in your country and state.
Our voices, our actions, and our commitments, beyond the celebrations can drive systemic change.
“Every battle, every journey, and every story is unique, but together, we are united.”
A Glimpse into My Journey.”
