Catharina Boehme: After much hard work a key date for girls in Nigeria is approaching. The HPV vaccine will soon be rolled out.
Catharina Boehme, the Assistant Director of General External Relations at the World Health Organization, shared on LinkedIn:
“After much hard work a key date for girls in Nigeria is approaching. The HPV vaccine will soon be rolled out. This is a big deal that can save the lives of thousands of women. Here’s why.
Cervical cancer is the second most frequent cancer among women in Nigeria. It takes thousands of lives every year. This preventable disease causes too much pain. It disrupts lives and livelihoods.
The good news is that when there is will, partnerships can make a difference for health.
The government of Nigeria, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization, and many other partners have made possible the upcoming rollout of a safe and effective HPV vaccine.
Last week I had the pleasure to talk about this and other ongoing projects with my friend Marie-Ange Saraka-Yao. We will keep doing our best for girls’ and women’s health.”
