“We are celebrating some phenomenal wins this week at American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN)! In DC, our team accompanied by ACS CAN volunteers were present for a major milestone towards Congress passing the bipartisan supported Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act (MCED Act). This bill, introduced by Representatives Terri Sewell(D-AL) Jodey C. Arrington (R-TX) will help make access to multi-cancer early cancer detection tests a reality for Medicare beneficiaries, once FDA approved and clinical benefit is shown. The MCED Act passed unanimously through the House Ways and Means Committee on Thursday.
In Boston we held an impactful Research Health Equity Breakfast made possible by ACS CAN’s incredible team and attended by so many important voices in the fight to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. Speakers included ACS and ACS CAN CEO Karen Knudsen MBA PhD, keynote speaker John F. Crowley, President and CEO of Biotechnology Innovation Organization, Representative Meghan Kilcoyne (D-12) , Dr. Naomi Ko, oncologist Boston Medical Center (BMC) and cancer survivor Jung A Han, and ACS CAN Board member and emcee Dana Bernson, MPH.
And we are proud of major progress in Pennsylvania biomarker was successfully passed this week and is now heading to Governor Josh Shapiro’s desk.
