Sami Mansfield: A recent review examines the impact of energy balance on triple-negative breast cancer
Sami Mansfield shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Research question – Does a healthy weight and body composition matter in the survival or hormone-negative breast cancer? YES!
A recent review examines the impact of energy balance on triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), focusing on how diet and exercise influence immune activation and treatment outcomes.
The review highlights the role of obesity and energy imbalance in accelerating TNBC progression and metastasis. It reinforces the potential benefits of maintaining a healthy weight through balanced energy intake and expenditure through exercise to improve prognosis and response to immunotherapy in TNBC patients. While much of the data is in pre-clinical mouse studies, these still provide very useful information and guidance on understanding of body composition in survival and outcomes of many types of cancer through lifestyle.
Key Points:
- Obesity and energy imbalance contribute to TNBC progression and metastasis.
- Diet and exercise can positively influence immune activation in TNBC patients.
- Maintaining a healthy weight may improve prognosis and response to immunotherapy.
- The review advocates for further clinical studies on lifestyle interventions in cancer care.
- Optimizing energy balance could be a crucial aspect of personalized cancer treatment strategies.
A healthy weight, body composition, and adequate skeletal muscle mass are focal points in the reach that we have as an organization. We are driven to provide education, awareness and strategies to improve the outcomes and quality of life in cancer survivors!”
