“We recently had the opportunity to speak with Network member Professor Ricardo Sales dos Santos about the groundbreaking Propulmão project in Brazil.
The project takes an integrated approach to lung cancer prevention, early detection and screening while setting a blueprint for the country.
There remain several key challenges to implementing a national lung cancer screening programme in Brazil. They include: less investment in cancer care and research than in high-income countries; limited access to, and investment in, healthcare in rural and certain urban regions; and a lack of up-to-date information on lung cancer screening among healthcare professionals.
