Ashley Love Sumrall: Dr. Barbara McAneny speaks on behalf of our ASCO at American Medical Association
Ashley Love Sumrall shared on X/Twitter:
“Dr. Barbara McAneny speaks on behalf of our ASCO proposed resolution at American Medical Association (AMA) addressing Medicare.gov Medicare Advantage (disadvantage) Part B drug coverage.
Many patients choose Medicare advantage (MA) plans becuase premiums are cheaper. Increasingly, these plans REFUSE to cover (in full) specialty drugs/biologics. This may limit access to care and promote disparities.
Furthermore patients enrolled in MA plans are prohibited from buying medigap policies and cannot revert to traditional FFS medicare. Patients have no way to know which condition they may acquire or what specialty meds they could need in future when signing up for MA plans.
We are asking AMA to join with Congress and CMSGov to require MA plans to cover these therapies such that pts pay same or less as patients with traditional medicare or medigap plans.”
