Quoting Wafik S. El-Deiry, the Associate Dean for Oncologic Sciences at the Warren Alpert Medical School and Director of the Legorreta Cancer Center at Brown University, on LinkedIn:
Delighted to meet this afternoon in Providence with Rhode Island State Representative Mia Ackerman, Deputy Majority Whip of the House and Member, House Health and Human Services Committee to provide an update on numerous exciting developments at the Legorreta Cancer Center at Brown University, The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Lifespan – A Health System Care New England.
There has been much growth, momentum due to investments by Brown and the affiliated health systems over the last several years, and we’re looking towards the future.
We discussed the burden of cancer in RI, the work of the cancer center to understand causes, to screen and detect cancer early, to develop innovative cancer treatments in clinical trials and to address disparities in our communities. We are doing this through pursuit of National Cancer Institute designation in the coming years and look forward to partnering with the State on new legislation and initiatives to help achieve the mission. New jobs, technologies are here and coming and we look forward to a day when Rhode Islanders can live longer healthier lives with less cancer as a result of research and clinical trials.
We appreciate Representative Ackerman’s advocacy to help improve the health and healthcare of Rhode Islanders.
