NCI Center for Cancer Research – Sandra Wolin, Steven Rosenberg, Giorgio Trinchieri from NCI CCR were elected into National Academy of Sciences

NCI Center for Cancer Research shared a post on LinkedIn:

“STAFF SPOTLIGHT: We are so honored to work alongside these three esteemed colleagues who were just elected into the prestigious National Academy of Sciences! Congratulations!

Dr. Wolin has a long history of ground-breaking discoveries in the field of RNA biology. She has pioneered discoveries that shed light on how noncoding RNAs function, how cells recognize and degrade defective RNAs and how failure to degrade these RNAs affects cell function and contributes to human disease. She joined CCR in 2017 as the inaugural Chief of the RNA Biology Laboratory and Head of the NCI RNA Biology Initiative.

Dr. Rosenberg has pioneered the development of immunotherapy. He identified the anti-cancer properties of interleukin-2, which became the first cancer immunotherapy approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He was also the first to identify tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) as a cancer therapy tool, which is now being widely developed to treat a range of cancers. Dr. Rosenberg joined the National Cancer Institute in 1974 and is Chief of the Surgery Branch.

Dr. Trinchieri has made seminal findings about the relationship between innate and adaptive immunity in cancer and infection culminating in recent clinical proofs of concept that therapeutic targeting of the microbiome improves cancer immunotherapy. Dr. Trinchieri joined CCR in 2006 and is now Chief of the Laboratory of Integrative Cancer Immunology and an NIH Distinguished Investigator.”
