Wafik El-Deiry: This is very sad to see in 2024 in the US

Karen Knudsen recently shared a post by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network on X/Twitter, adding:

“I am deeply disappointed by today’s news. This announcement deals a significant blow to the Biden Administration’s Cancer Moonshot goal to end cancer as we know it by reducing tobacco use.”

Quoting the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network’s post:

“In a major blow to public health, today the White House issued a shocking announcement that it is indefinitely delaying the finalization of the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) rule to eliminate the sale of menthol cigarettes, with no mention of flavored cigars.”

Additionally, Wafik El-Deiry commented on Karen Knudsen’s post:

“The addiction to menthol cigarettes is a serious long-standing public health matter and it is therefore disappointing to see the recent White House policy decision working against reducing mortality from resulting lung and other cancers. This is very sad to see in 2024 in the US.”
