Wafik S. El-Deiry: Seems like the real problem nationally is the ‘corporatization of medicine’ rather than ‘physician burnout’
Wafik S. El-Deiry, Director of the Legorreta Cancer Center at Brown University, shared on LinkedIn:
“IMO: Seems like the real problem nationally is the ‘corporatization of medicine’ rather than ‘physician burnout’ or ‘overwhelmed’ physicians which have such negative connotations.
As life expectancy now in the US is far lower than other developed countries, where is the accountability in absence of physician leadership in medicine. Do the C-Suite executives have to take the Hippocratic Oath or is it all about revenue for non-profits.
I offer my thoughts because I have deep concerns about the current state in academic medicine and its future, let alone the plight of academic physician-scientists.
