Michelle Kirschner: Preventing Cancer Should Not Mean Sacrificing Quality of Life
Michelle Kirschner, Director of Program Development at The Cancer Survivorship Provider Network, recently posted on LinkedIn:
“This ASCO Article is an important reminder that we should be mindful that not only cancer survivors need supportive care. Individuals at high risk for developing cancer due to a gene mutation often undergo extensive surgeries with quality of life consequences and psychological challenges such as distress, depression and change in body image. Kathleen Ruddy could have benefited from the support that I have given to many cancer survivors and their care partners in my survivorship and supportive care clinic.
Let’s break down the current structure of supportive care and rebuild it to include previvors and survivors. So glad that Samantha Siegel, MD is leading the way. ”
