“Our advocacy paper got accepted and published in BMJ Tobacco Control!
Almost one year ago, the Association of European Cancer Leagues assembled a youth taskforce in the frame of the European Conference on Tobacco or Health, ECToH 2023. Our team worked closely with the scientific committee in a cascade of events and sessions leading to the Madrid 2023 Declaration ‘For a Tobacco-Free Generation’
Our paper documents this effort as an example of youth involvement in major public health events and efforts focusing primarily on tobacco control, but also alcohol and substanceuse
The paper has been coauthored with Beatriz Arranz Álvarez, Dr. Wendy Yared, Prof. Rui Medeiros and Prof. Jose M Martin-Moreno with the support of fellow Youth Ambassadors of the European Code Against Cancer and colleagues from the Asociación Española contra el Cáncer and several public health and/or youth organizations. We repeat and commit to strengthening our efforts to implement the Madrid Declaration and particularly its concluding call ‘The time to act is now! Our children have the right to live in a tobacco-free environment. It is our ethical obligation and our responsibility to protect their health and the planet we leave for future generations. Let us put words into action and do all we possibly can – right now – to eliminate tobacco use’
