Vital Importance of Biomedical Research – American Association for Cancer Research
American Association for Cancer Research shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Jennifer Ficko was diagnosed with stage IV melanoma in 2010.
For the next 7 years, she endured the severe side effects of a novel therapy while experiencing intermittent responses. By 2017, the treatment no longer kept her cancer in check, and she had few options left.
She enrolled in a clinical trial evaluating a novel immunotherapy pioneered at the NCI known as tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy. Jennifer had a severe reaction to the treatment and spent months in recovery, but she soon regained her strength, and she has been cancer free for nearly 8 years.
Jennifer’s story is a testament to the vital importance of biomedical research. But future progress against cancer is threatened by the President’s proposal to cut nearly 40% from the NIH budget.
Please support patients like Jennifer by calling on Congress to restore NIH investments in cancer research.”
