Global Summit on War and Cancer 2023: Zeena Salman’s speech titled “Childhood Cancer in Gaza – an Acute-on-Chronic Crisis”
The 1st Global Summit on War and Cancer took place on 14 – 16 December, 2023. It was organized by the Institute of Cancer and Crisis and OncoDaily. Renowned healthcare specialists from all over the world came together to discuss cancer issues at the time of war.
We were honored to have Zeena Salman, a pediatric oncologist-hematologist consultant at the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, as a speaker during the summit where she discussed about childhood cancer management and provision during war.
Dr. Salman talked about difficulties in organizing proper cancer care in Gaza for pediatric patients. She gave insights on oncology-related statistics prior and after the war and highlighted the importance of taking initiative to make change for individuals to build base for further results in a global scale.
Zeena Salman is a Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist Consultant of Global Pediatric Medicine at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She has a rich background of working in both clinical medicine and public/global health. Her fields of interest and contributions include capacity building in cancer and pediatrics, as demonstrated through her work with the World Health Organization, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.
