Bridging the Gap Between Laboratory Research and Clinical Practice – The Netherlands Cancer Institute
The Netherlands Cancer Institute shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Last week we proudly hosted the annual meeting and summer school of EMERALD PhD Programme for MDs.
This international EU-LIFE program aims to help bridge the gap between laboratory research and clinical practice. It has been an educational and inspirational week, with topics such as science policy with Iris Uribesalgo, PhD and lots of scientific writing with Fellowsherpa.
Three of the twenty medical doctors selected for this program are doing their research at our institute, including Sajjad Rostami, who shares:
‘Bridging the gap between lab and clinic is not just necessary, it’s urgent if we want to bring real change to patients, right where it’s needed most.’
‘The EMERALD program has given us a unique opportunity to grow as clinician-scientists, fostering a bidirectional exchange where clinical insights shape research questions, and scientific discoveries can rapidly translate back to the bedside.
Doing this work at the Netherlands Cancer Institute has been especially rewarding. It’s an environment that encourages me to think beyond disciplinary boundaries, to ask bold questions, and to grow, not just as a researcher or a physician, but as someone committed to truly connecting both worlds.'”
