Satya Prakash Yadav: Is chemotherapy free treatment of leukemia possible?
Satya Prakash Yadav, Director of Paediatric Hemato-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant at Medical and Haemato-Oncology Cancer Institute in Gurugram, recently posted on X/Twitter:
“Is chemotherapy-free treatment of leukemia possible? YES! Pre-B Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL): Dasatinib-Blinatumomab (chemo free) treatment in Ph-positive ALL in adults 85% Overall Survival at 3 years. Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia: Arsenic +ATRA leads to Overall Survival >90%.
Long-Term Results of the Dasatinib-Blinatumomab Protocol for Adult Philadelphia-Positive ALL 93.1% being in molecular response (ie, complete after dasatinib/blinatumomab—never received chemotherapy/transplant and continued with tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) only.
Retinoic Acid and Arsenic Trioxide for Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. Two-year event-free survival rates were 97% in the ATRA–arsenic trioxide group and 86% in the ATRA–chemotherapy group.
Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in chronic phase Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKi) alone have Overall Survival>90%. In some we can even stop TKi. Assessment of Outcomes After Stopping Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors Among Patients With Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.
CAR T-cell therapy for B cell ALL. CAR T-cell therapy is a way to get immune cells called T cells to fight cancer by changing them in lab so they can kill cancer cells. Emily Whitehead, First Pediatric Patient to Receive CAR T-Cell Therapy, Celebrates Cure 10 Years Later.
Leukemia in newborns with Down Syndrome can resolve spontaneously without any chemotherapy Newborns with DS may exhibit a particularly unique form of leukemia that historically has been associated with a high rate of spontaneous remission.
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) CAPTIVATE trial established ibrutinib plus venetoclax as the first, all-oral, chemotherapy-free, MRD-guided, time-limited regimen for the upfront treatment of CLL.”
