The Nobel Prize: His discovery of a novel class of pressure sensors has given us new insight into our bodies
The Nobel Prize shared a post on LinkedIn:
Ardem Patapoutian – awarded the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine – was born in 1967 in Beirut, Lebanon. In his youth, he moved from a war-torn Beirut to Los Angeles, USA and subsequently received a Ph.D. in 1996 from Caltech, Pasadena, USA.
Today Patapoutian is a scientist at Scripps Research, La Jolla, California in the field of touch – specifically determining just how receptors in our body respond to pressure. His discovery of a novel class of pressure sensors has given us new insight into our bodies, and led to him receiving the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
