
Register Today for the 2025 Breast Cancer Symposium
The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State University present the annual Breast Cancer Symposium 2025 on Saturday, April 12, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Detroit Marriott Troy (200 W. Big Beaver Road, Troy, Michigan).
This year’s keynote speakers include
Sara Hurvitz, M.D., FACP
Professor of Medicine, Smith Family Endowed Chair in Women’s Health, head of the Division of Hematology and Oncology, and senior vice president of the Clinical Research Division at the University of Washington School of Medicine’s Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, presenting “Rethinking Anthracycline Use in Breast Cancer,” and
Kelly Hewitt, M.D., FACS,
Associate professor of Surgery at the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah, presenting “From Past to Future: Navigating the Landscape of Ductal Carcinoma in Situ.”
Medical oncologist and co-leader of the Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), and co-chair of this year’s symposium.
“The keynote speakers last year discussed new and innovative approaches to treating the various types of breast cancer, as well as new prevention strategies. There were many fascinating advancements in care to learn about with our peers.
We’re looking forward to hearing Drs. Hurvitz and Hewitt’s presentations and to learn about the groundbreaking work they are doing at their institutions and the care our colleagues are providing here at Karmanos and across the McLaren Health Care system.” said Hadeel Assad.
Breast surgeon and member of the Breast Cancer MDT, is also co-chair of the 2025 symposium.
Additional presenters from Karmanos’ Breast Cancer MDT and the McLaren Proton Therapy Center, part of the Karmanos Cancer Network, will present the following:
- “Updates in Management of HER2 Positive Breast Cancer” – Jalian Elayoubi, M.D., medical oncologist
- “Making the Case for Breast Reconstruction… or Not” – Guillermina Nava, M.D., breast reconstructive surgeon
- “Updates in ER+ and TNBC” – Lawrence Flaherty, M.D., medical oncologist
- “Updates in Breast Cancer Radiotherapy” – Brian Yeh, M.D., Ph.D., radiation oncologist
- “Women’s Wellness Clinic: Survivorship, High-Risk Screening” – Amy Legghio, MSN, CNP, OCN, nurse practitioner
Medical oncologist, will lead a case presentation and panel discussion.
The cost to attend is
- $125 for physicians and pharmacists,
- $50 for mid-level providers, retired physicians and other allied health providers,
- $25 for nurses,
- $20 for fellows, residents and medical students, which is refundable upon attendance.
