Insights from Axios’ 4th Annual What’s Next Summit by Lisa A. Lacasse
Lisa A. Lacasse, President of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Thrilled to have had the opportunity to share alongside Johnson and Johnson’s Penny Heaton, M.D., a tremendous partner in the fight against cancer, at Axios’ fourth annual What’s Next Summit in D.C. with Nicholas Johnston.
Our conversation centered around the significant strides made in cancer research and advancements over the past decade and the challenges that remain.
According to American Cancer Society’s 2025 Facts and Figures report, 40% of known cancers today are preventable, highlighting the importance of education around prevention and early detection in our communities. We must also ensure that innovations in oncology reach community centers, where patients often receive their care.
Another key takeaway was the need for increased access to affordable health care and patient navigation services.
The Clinical Trials Modernization Act, which we support at American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), is important legislation that would allow trial sponsors to reimburse patients for non-medical costs, potentially increasing participation, especially from underrepresented groups.
Together, we can maximize patient reach and impact, ensuring that all cancer patients and their families have access to the best possible care.
Let’s continue to foster partnerships across the health care ecosystem to drive forward the mission of serving every patient, regardless of their location or background. Looking forward to our continued work with Johnson and Johnson to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.”
