Bettina Ryll: The conditions under which healthcare professionals in Ukraine were and continue to deliver cancer care are incredible and deserve deepest respect
Bettina Ryll, Founder of
“Fantastic initiative! We in the WECAN community coordinated our efforts to help cancer patients who had to flee the country in the early days after the Russian invasion last year, before official set-ups were in place. In situations of conflicts, those who already struggle with conditions like cancer are hit more than double- not just their condition itself, but the war and the impact of the war on their care.
Witnessing displacement at that scale in the middle of Europe again is heart-breaking and the conditions under which healthcare professionals in Ukraine were and continue to deliver cancer care are incredible and deserve deepest respect.
Ukraine will rebuild, so it is fantastic to see initiatives supporting healthcare as a topic particularly close to my heart.”
Quoting Ebba Hallersjö Hult‘s post:
“I look forward to participating in this important conference to discuss the Swedish support to Ukraine’s health care system, in particular cancer issues that I am particularly engaged in through and .
During the years 2011-2014, I had the privilege of living and working in Kiev as Trade Commissioner at Business Sweden and the Embassy of Sweden and have since continued to be involved in healthcare issues through, among other things, the Sweden-Ukraine Business Association.
Even before the war, access to diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation was inadequate. It is so important that we join forces and find concrete ways to offer the people of Ukraine hope and the best possible care now and at the same time support the long-term and sustainable modernisation of the country’s health system.”
