Strengthening disease prevention through clean air measures – Association of European Cancer Leagues

Association of European Cancer Leagues shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Tackling air pollution is a huge opportunity to intensify Europe’s fight against cancer.

Every nine seconds, a new case of cancer is diagnosed in the European Union. The good news? 4 in 10 of these cases are preventable.

Yet, 97% of people living in Europe’s urban areas are breathing air which is considered unhealthy. And this is worrying: evidence shows that air pollution is a cause for all major non-communicable diseases, including lung cancer.

Today, we are joining health experts and policymakers in the European Parliament to discuss the health impacts of air pollution.

Speakers include:
Dr. Maria Neira, Director of Environment, Climate Change, and Health at the World Health Organization
Veronica Manfredi, Director for Zero Pollution at the European Commission
Ian Marnane, Head of Unit for Pollution and Health at the European Environment Agency
Miriam Weber, City of Utrecht & WHO Healthy Cities Network

Learn more about the event and our work within the EU Healthy Air Coalition.”
