Paolo A. Ascierto: Communicating hope in metastatic melanoma care

Paolo A. Ascierto, Director Department of Melanoma, Cancer Immunotherapy, Development Therapeutics at the National Cancer Institute IRCCS G. Pascale Foundation, made the following post on LinkedIn:

“Being a doctor also means communicating. In metastatic melanoma, 50% survival is a clinical triumph, achieved thanks to immunotherapy research. But for patients, the same percentage can be a frightening figure, an ‘in or out’.

The real challenge is to find the right words to help patients understand. Knowing how best to interpret the role of doctor in a way that is not just scientific. In short, communicating effectively to make living with the disease as less traumatic as possible.
