Toufic Kachaamy: Transforming esophageal cancer care with TNT and organ preservation
Toufic Kachaamy, Chief of Medicine and Medical Director of Gastroenterology at City of Hope, Phoenix, posted the following on LinkedIn:
“What an incredible experience so far at GIASCO 2025! It’s been amazing to connect with so many colleagues who share a passion for advancing GI oncology and therapeutic endoscopy.
One of the highlights for me has been seeing the concept of total neoadjuvant therapy (TNT) and organ preservation finally becoming mainstream in the treatment of esophageal cancer. This represents such an exciting shift in how we approach patient care—prioritizing efficacy while preserving quality of life.
I’m especially thrilled that we have two phenomenal speakers at our course in Las Vegas: Steven Hsesheng Lin, a prominent Radiation Oncologist from MD-Anderson, and Michael S. Smith, MD, MBA, the Associate System Chief of Gastroenterology for the Mount Sinai Health System, who are diving into this topic in depth. Their expertise is pushing the conversation forward and ensuring we all leave here with actionable insights.
This is the kind of progress that reminds me why I love what I do. Grateful to be part of a field that’s always evolving, always striving to do better for our patients. Looking forward to more incredible discussions and innovation at GIASCO this year!”
