Brian Shields: 3 Examples of Why AI is better than SAAS for Medical Affairs

Brian Shields, Founder of KOL Pulse, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“3 Examples of Why AI is better than SAAS for Medical Affairs.

Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nardella made a recent splash by predicting the end of SAAS in favor of AI agents. He called SAAS agents simple CRUD (Create, Read, Update, and Delete) database applications with some rudimentary business logic.

Medical Affairs is a great arena to evaluate Nardella’s profound prediction.

1. Medical Conference Buzz

With a CRUD tool, a user may be able to generate a simple sentiment chart based on some curated sentiments of tweets, or even some developer-designed algorithm.

However, with an effective Artificial Intelligence Agent, you can dig into the nuance of the KOL discussions with simple questions and answers and specific prompting.

Clinical Trial data and discussions are very nuanced at Medical Conferences. Physicians use humor, sarcasm, and even memes to discuss their viewpoints on trial outputs, trial design, and clinical implications.

A simple CRUD SAAS tool, (even from the wonderful developer at Veeva?) can not be designed to capture all these nuanced discussions for effective output.

However, with an effective AI tool, you can not only query for buzz based on your specific need, but also specify the output method of these data via Table, Pie Chart, Powerpoint Slide Outline, blog, etc, and also include your source data.

2. Preparing for a KOL Discussion

What specific data do you need to prepare you for this discussion with a KOL at a conference?

Do you want to know what’s been important to them?

Do you want to know their insights on a recent topic from the conference, or what are their thoughts on the use of ctDNA technologies in clinical trials?

Is your SAAS CRUD going to provide these insights?

With an AI tool, just ask your question and get your answers (with links to the source tweets or video clips).

3. Social Network Visualization

Which KOLs were involved in this discussion from ASCO and how are their social graphs linked?

Which KOLs are delivering unique insights to a unique group of followers?

Did any of your KOLs interact with a very negative commentary on your company’s specific clinical trial?

Can a CRUDDY SAAS provide these answers to your questions on the fly

Probably not.

With an advanced AI agent, you can map out the social graph of a specific KOL discussion and communicate these data in an interactive graph with senior leadership.

With CRUD, you can probably figure out who had the most tweets, impressions, retweets, and likes.

Will AI change Medical Affairs? Is CRUD here to stay?

If you are interested in our demo of the recent SABCS24 KOL conversations, please send me a note for a KOL Pulse AI demo. I will demonstrate the use cases mentioned above.”
