Amol Akhade: My wishlist from Santa Claus and from 2025 in oncology

“My wishlist from Santa Claus and from 2025 in oncology , as oncologist who practices in developing country like India, at community level and has a keen interest in analyzing data and is active on Social Media voicing opinion ( un filtered and un biased )

1- Let there be better and more equal access to quality oncology drugs to those who need them the most . Drug is not of much value if more and more People With cancer across the world can’t access it with ease .

2 – Let oncologist be more wise to decide what is quality oncology drug or intervention for a particular cancer vs what is not .
Let they get more power to see the difference between Hype and Hope .

3 – Let new research and new publications be accessible for oncologist all over the world to read and analyze. Let Giant Pay walls be smaller in 2025 .

4 – Let oncology conferences be more open for discussions and analysis of data and not just presentation of data . Let’s not curtail Q & A sessions. Conferance needs two way discussions between those on podium and those who are In audiance .

5 – Let more and more KOLs be open to receiving critical questions along with praise . Remember if no one is questioning you on your work that means less and less people are actually reading your work ( rather than blindly nodding and clapping without reading )

6 – Let more and more Oncologist be wise enough to read the data and analyze it and question it rather than just follow it. Remember it is one of the vital sign of you actually being alive as an oncologist.

7 – Let MedTwitter be the place where ideas flows freely and unrestricted and at the same time with mutual respect . There are no gods amongst us and all are mortals . Some with better opportunities and some with less. That’s all.

8- Let me see more and more Oncologist from developing world find some time and energy after long and hectic clinical work to be active participants in such discussions on MedTwitter. Let medtwitter be not just restricted to few elite institutions from developed world.

9 – Let there be more and more crisp , witty and straight from heart Editorials ( like in golden days of 90s and 2000s ) in Journals which will push oncologist back to actually reading oncology journals.
Let editors and editorials be free of COI . Let there be JOY in reading oncology journals.

10 – Finally , let there be peace in all parts of the world so people with cancer in those parts don’t suffer due to no fault of theirs .
Peace heals everything . Eventually.

Is this too much ask from Santa Claus. ”
