Adekemi Oyewusi: EDUCARE – Supporting the medical treatment and education of those impacted by childhood cancer
Adekemi Oyewusi, TMO Project Coordinator at OneHealth, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“A few weeks ago, I officially launched my project, EDUCARE, dedicated to supporting the medical treatment and education of those impacted by childhood cancer.
This initiative was my way of giving back and celebrating my 35th birthday and 25 years as a childhood cancer survivor, with an ambitious goal of raising 35 million naira.
What started as a little idea quickly grew beyond me, as we received over 2 million naira in donations within just a few days.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported so far: our media/corporate partner Indwelt Studios, Oluwatosin Adisa, Okapi Children Cancer Foundation, my friends, family, individual donors, corporate donors like Roperb Dental Clinic, Olushola AKAPO for the care kits, and our media creator Uduak S Ekpo.
Thanks to your generosity, we completed the first phase of the outreach, supporting the treatment of over 10 children Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, National Hospital Abuja, and Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, as well as funding one session (3 terms) of school fees for a childhood cancer survivor.
While we haven’t reached our initial target yet, this experience has highlighted the immense challenges we have with childhood cancer and reinforced the urgency of our mission.
It’s clear we have a long journey ahead, and we need your continued support to achieve the dream of ensuring that No child is left behind.
As I’ve always said, survival doesn’t end with treatment. We must also support survivors so they can not only survive but thrive.
EDUCARE is a project that will continue to grow and evolve to achieve its goals and create a lasting impact. Together, we can make this vision a reality.
Special thanks to the team and the CMD at my hospital Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex.”
