Tracey O’Brien: One of the great privileges of my role at the Cancer Institute NSW is being able to support the life-saving work of some of NSW’s best and brightest researchers

Tracey O’Brien, recently posted on LinkedIn:

“One of the great privileges of my role at the Cancer Institute NSW is being able to support the life-saving work of some of NSW’s best and brightest researchers.

This morning, seven inspiring researchers and research teams were announced as recipients of a NSW Premier’s Awards for Outstanding Cancer Research, with funding provided by the Institute to help support their incredible work. I’d like to extend a huge congratulations to Anthony Gill, Alexander Menzies, Anna Singleton, Rebecca Simpson, Wollongong Hospital, the CanEngage Project Team at Macquarie University and Cancer Voices NSW for their well-deserved recognition.

Research has helped transform our understanding of cancer but there is still so much more to be done, particularly for communities where cancer continues to have a disproportionate impact. The importance of closing the cancer care gap for Aboriginal, multicultural, regional, and other priority populations shone through in today’s awards, as did the endless possibilities brought about by immunotherapies and personalised medicine in supporting people diagnosed with rare or poor outcome cancers. I know NSW communities are safer because of the collective efforts of our world-class research teams.

Thank you Premier Chris Minns, Health Minister and Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park, Minister for Medical Research David Harris and Secretary of NSW Health Susan Pearce AM for helping celebrate the extraordinary research achievements taking place in NSW.

Find out more about today’s outstanding winners.”
