We’re excited to announce that a new centre of excellence will be established at Karolinska Institutet following a 30 million kronor grant from Vetenskapsrådet / Swedish Research Council.
The new Centre for Cellular Cancer Therapy (C3T) will create a multidisciplinary centre for both basic and clinical researchers with the goal of harnessing the potential of killer cells, also known as cytotoxic lymphocytes, to develop advanced cell-based treatments for cancer.
The funding will also be used to recruit young group leaders and to arrange courses and workshops. A visitors’ program for internationally leading researchers will also be established to promote innovation and scientific discussion.
“It feels amazing to build a translational operation on the basis of strong links between basic and clinical researchers,” says Professor Yenan Bryceson, who is spearheading the initiative.
“This research environment will enable further development of cell-based treatments against cancer,” says Professor Stephan Mielke, who is a member of the board of directors for the Karolinska Comprehensive Cancer Center (KCCC) and a member of the new Centre for Cellular Cancer Therapy.
