Estela Rodriguez: The second Lung Cancer Health Equity Summit

The 2nd SCHEQ Lung Cancer Health Equity Summit was held at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine – Georgia in Suwanee, GA, from November 18 to November 19, 2024. The theme of the summit was “Black and Latino Patients Navigating Lung Cancer: Stepping Stones to Equity.”

The summit focused on addressing the disparities faced by Black and Latino communities in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of lung cancer. It aimed to promote equity in healthcare, with discussions around improving access to care, enhancing support systems, and reducing barriers that disproportionately impacted these populations.

The event brought together healthcare professionals, advocates, and policymakers to collaborate on strategies for advancing health equity, improving outcomes, and providing better support to these underserved communities in the context of lung cancer.

Estela (Estelamari) Rodriguez is Associate Director of Community Outreach and Co-Lead of Thoracic Site Disease Group of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She is board certified in medical oncology and hematology. She has a special interest in the early detection of lung cancer and increasing access to clinical trials.
