Tunji Alausa: Visit to Diamed Centre in Lagos State
Tunji Alausa,Β Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Federal Republic of Nigeria, posted the following on LinkedIn:
βYesterday, I visited the Diamed Centre in Lagos State.
Diamed is a state-of-the-art, newly built clinic offering a range of services, including cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, orthopedics, and oncology.
During my tour of the facility, I discussed the Federal Governmentβs plan to increase the number of Nigerians with health insurance and the imminent energy subsidy for public health facilities. Nigeria stands at a pivotal moment, with a President committed to harnessing renewable energy resources to power the nation. Given the rising costs of petrol and diesel, I encouraged Dr. Olorode, CEO of Diamed, to explore the installation of solar lithium-based mini-grids and consider retrofitting her generators to use CNG. After the initial investment, these solutions could significantly reduce her ongoing energy expenses.
It is unfortunate that the costs of healthcare delivery often exceed what Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) are willing to reimburse providers. This is why we are working on a new reform plan aimed at encouraging Nigerians to obtain health insurance and improve their health-seeking behavior. Be assured that the FMOH&SW on behalf of the Federal Government, is dedicated to improving access to better care and better service delivery.
With its facilities, the Diamed Centre has the potential to become a center of excellence for specialist care. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Dr. Abiola Olorode for developing such an exceptional center dedicated to delivering meaningful and comprehensive healthcare to Nigerians.β
