Sarah Louden: It’s an honor to be honored

“It’s an honor to be honored!
Last night, I stood in deep gratitude as I was recognized by BRCA Strong at an event sponsored by Miami Cancer Institute at the InterContinental Hotels and Resorts in Miami, but this moment isn’t about me—it’s about the incredible community of previvors, survivors, and those still in active treatment for breast cancer. Your courage and strength remind me daily why my work matters.
I wanted to use my boys to remind everyone that genetic risk matters and that men have a lifetime risk of breast cancer between 1-5%, which doubles when you have a BRCA gene AND has implications in prostate cancer.
We cannot ignore the stark disparities that continue to persist, especially among our Black, Brown, Pacific Islander, and American Indian sisters. These women face higher mortality rates and fewer resources in their fight against breast cancer. We must use our platforms, our voices, and our energy to lift them up and ensure they have the care and support they deserve. We must demand better!!
To my friends and family—your support means the world to me. And to my boys, I dedicate my work at Total Health | Oncology to you, so you grow up in a world where healthcare disparities are a thing of the past. You are my reason for pushing forward, every single day.
Together, let’s continue to advocate, educate, and fight for change. There’s still so much work to be done!”
