Elil Renganathan: Primary health care through a ”whole of society” and ”whole of government” approach
Elil Renganathan, Director of ProtectHealth Corporation, shared a post on Linkedin:
”Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening health care is guided by the Health White Paper, which lays down a visionary framework for a resilient, equitable, and person-centered health care system with a shift towards prioritizing primary health care, promoting health, and preventing disease.
Our Lung Health Initiative (LHI) is an integrated model which emphasizes primary health care through a ‘whole of society’ and ‘whole of government’ approach, addressing lung health across the spectrum of diseases, risk factors and age groups, to create a robust framework for action.
It further promotes collaboration between the government, civil society organizations (CSOs), primary healthcare providers, and the private sector, thus responding to the needs of the population through a sustainable, and inclusive model for lung health.
At the recent World Cancer Congress 2024 in Geneva, I moderated a Roundtable on ‘Initiating Collective Efforts for Advancing Lung Health’ chaired by HE Minister of Health Malaysia Dato Seri Dzulkefly where this integrated Lung Health Initiative was presented and discussed with senior representatives of key global stakeholders.
We are encouraged by the support for the initiative and the proposal for a WHA resolution on Lung Health to be presented to 78th World Health Assembly (2025) through the 156th EB.
With special thanks to World Health Organization, IARC – International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization , Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), Ministry of Health, Malaysia, National Cancer Society Malaysia and other partners who contributed to this event and looking forward to working with you on this important journey.”
